THE Platinum Skies team is hosting a range of events for its homeowners in recognition of Loneliness Awareness Week.

Homeowners at the Dorset and Wiltshire over-55s independent-living communities have organised events in support of Loneliness Awareness Week which runs until Friday.

Some of the activities include a wine tasting afternoon at Vista in Parkstone, a board games, cards and pool afternoon, as well as twice-daily coffee mornings in Esprit in Poole town centre, and a men’s happy hour with darts, and a film afternoon at Chapters in Salisbury.

Laura Warwick, the director of lifestyle, wellbeing and entertainment at Platinum Skies, said: “We are proud to support Loneliness Awareness Week which encourages people to talk to a friend or relative if they are feeling lonely. Some of our homeowners were previously living in rural, isolated locations so they can relate to those who don’t currently benefit from the lifestyle that a Platinum Skies property offers.

"They’ve moved to our communities to make new friends, participate in our activities as much or as little as they want and often find a sense of purpose in this next chapter of their lives.”

Loneliness Awareness Week is a UK-wide initiative organised by Marmalade Trust.

Amy Perrin, the founder of Marmalade Trust, said: “We’re so grateful that Platinum Skies are getting involved with the fifth Loneliness Awareness Week, where the theme is, We Get Lonely, encouraging understanding and acceptance of loneliness.

"Loneliness Awareness Week was created to reduce the stigma surrounding loneliness and support us to build a society where people freely acknowledge that loneliness can exist, and actively support those experiencing it to increase their social contact and make new friendships.”

Each Platinum Skies community has a dedicated onsite community manager who supports the homeowners through practical and emotional support, while boosting their wellbeing through organised events.

The apartments, houses and cottages are designed with accessibility in mind, including bathrooms with step-free showers, easy-to-use kitchens with energy-saving appliances, and underfloor heating.

Platinum Skies is hosting an open week in Salisbury from Monday June 28 to Sunday July 4, and in Sherborne from Monday July 5 to Sunday July 11.

During the events, the public can view and reserve a choice of shared-ownership homes, while the Sherborne apartments are available to reserve off-plan.

Prices for a Platinum Skies home start from £105,000 based on the buyer paying 50 per cen of the property’s full market value.

The homes are made affordable as part of a government-backed shared ownership scheme delivered in partnership with Homes England.
