15 things to do in and around Salisbury this July

1. Lover Garage Sale

The free event for all the family takes place on Saturday July 3.

There will also be bacon butties on sale at the village hall.

While the proceeds of any sale is retained by those taking part, a contribution to assist with advertising cost is made, any surplus is donated to the Lover Community Trust to specifically contribute to the running costs of Lover Green.

Come and grab a buttie and enjoy a stroll round the village and a browse of the items on sale.

2. Plain Arts Summer Exhibition

Plain Arts Salisbury is holding its summer exhibition which opens on Saturday at 12 noon.

The exhibition in Galley 4 at Salisbury Library runs until July 31.

3. Open Gardens - Lower Bemerton

Enjoy the beautiful gardens on show at a special event in Lower Bemerton on Sunday.

Twelve gardens will be open from 2pm to 5pm, allowing the opportunity to see wonderful views of the Nadder usually hidden behind the houses.

Teas, home made jams and and plants will be on sale at St John’s Place and a group from the Salisbury Royal British Legion Band will be playing.

There will be a chance to swap tips and ideas with the garden owners, see the interior of St John’s Place and to talk to the Green Team about their work in beautifying the church yard.

Tickets £5 (under 12’s free) give admission to all the gardens.

4. Salisbury Baroque

Salisbury Baroque will be performing at the Medieval Hall in Salisbury.

Two concerts are being held at the venue in the Cathedral Close on Sunday (July 4), at 3pm and 5.30pm.

Julia Bishop will direct a programme of popular works by Purcell, Vivaldi, Handel and Bach.

Appropriate Covid precautions will be taken which means tickets have to be booked in advance.

5. Engine Room Film Festival 2021

In collaboration with Bath Spa University, Wiltshire Creative presents Engine Room Film Festival 2021 on the main stage of Salisbury Playhouse.

On July 7, emerging filmmakers based in the South West will showcase their work in the Engine Room Student Filmmakers’ Showcase.

This will be followed by the Engine Room Professional Filmmakers’ Showcase on 8 July, showcasing work by established filmmakers.

6. Wolf

Wolf, suitable for ages 12 and over, is at Salisbury Playhouse on July 9.

Detective Jay Walker is dead, and with no leads and a case colder than ice, it's up to his ex-partner Patrick 'Nobody calls me Patrick' Wolf to find out who killed him.

Following sell-out performances at the Edinburgh Fringe, Lewis Doherty embarks on a UK tour with his debut show, bringing to life thirty characters, car chases, and multi-man brawls for a hilarious adventure across a cyber-punk landscape.

7. Recreate II - Fisherton Mill

An exhibition of artworks made from recycled materials will be held at Fisherton Mill in Salisbury next month.

Recreate II runs from July 10 until August 14. Admission is free.

Professional sculptor Ptolemy Elrington creates ‘hubcap creatures’, work pictured, working with recycled materials.

Jake Partridge creates artworks from repurposed and recycled materials saving many skateboards from landfill and collecting dust in the back of skate shops and peoples garages.

Adele Zaslawska makes mosaics, using the beautiful patterns and designs of old china.

Also featured is Salisbury-based glass artist Anthony Harris as well as work form J.A.M.S Ironwork , Rescue & Revive, Rebecca Crawford, Tom Sibbeck and Badger & Birch.

8. Ayanna Witter-Johnson - Salisbury Playhouse

Singer, songwriter, cellist and composer, Ayanna Witter-Johnson, known for performances at the Royal Albert Hall, London and seen on the first night of the BBC Proms performs at Salisbury Playhouse on July 10.

9. Murray Walker Tribute Evening

THE life of legendary Formula 1 commentator Murray Walker OBE will be celebrated during a special tribute evening at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu.

Friends, colleagues and fans will share insights and anecdotes about his life and career at the tribute event on Saturday, August 14.

10. Films at Somerley Estate

Film lovers can also enjoy some cinema magic in the grounds of Somerley Estate near Ringwood.

Summer Screens is bringing an open air cinema to Somerley Estate with screenings next month.

Films being shown Top Gun on July 15, In the Heights on July 16, The Greatest Showman on July 17.

11. Theatre at The Chapel

Theatrical productions will be returning to The Chapel, with the fourth play written by Salisbury writer Jayne Woodhouse.

Lost Souls, produced by Loosely Based Theatre Company, will be directed by Calum Robshaw.

The performances are at 7.45pm on Friday, July 16, and Saturday, July 17, and run for 60 minutes.

The Friday showing will be followed by a question and answer session.

12. Wedding Fair and Bridal Boot Sale

A free wedding fair and bridal boot sale is being held in the Guildhall on Sunday, July 18 from 11am until 3pm.

Wedding fair exhibitors will showcase bridal wear, jewellery, flowers, photography, catering and more.

Visitors can enjoy live music and there is a free goodie bag for all brides to be.

The Bridal Boot Sale will take place in the Guildhall Square. Similar to a car boot, this table top sale will give people the opportunity to sell wedding items they no longer want.

13. Salisbury Live

Dates for Salisbury Live have been rescheduled and will now take place on Friday, July 23, Saturday 24 and Friday 30.

Live in the Square featuring the Deloreons will now take place on Friday, July 23, 5pm to 10pm. Entry is free. The line-up also features HP & the Reggae Source, The Stingrays, Jack Card and Ribble.

The Salisbury Live Lift Off originally planned for Saturday, July 3 at Salisbury Rugby Club will now take place on Saturday, July 24, 3pm to 10pm.

Madness tribute act, One Step Behind will be headlining. Other acts performing include The Zucchinis, Da’ska Assassins, Lump, Home From the Unknown and Sound Emporium Showcase.

Friday, July 30 is the Salisbury Live Out & About featuring live music in the pubs and clubs across the city. Entry is free.

14. Dark Revolutions - Salisbury Arts Centre

On July 24, enjoy live music and the tastes of Dark Revolutions artisan beer while relaxing in the grounds of Salisbury Arts Centre.

15. Festival of Archaeology 

The Salisbury Museum returns with its Festival of Archaeology. 

It runs from Saturday, July 24 to Sunday 25, with a programme of talks as well as displays of historic falconry, bronze-casting and textile making to live entertainment with a historical twist and hands-on activities including archery.
