Tributes have been paid to a “kind and gentle” seven-year-old who died this week, after a collision between her bicycle and an HGV.

The girl was taken to Salisbury District Hospital but died a short time later.

The crash had taken place on the A338 Church Street in Collingbourne Ducis, 10 miles south of Marlborough, just before 6.30pm on Tuesday (July 13).

She had been a pupil at Collingbourne Primary School.

“She was a beautiful, kind and gentle little girl” said the school’s head teacher Dan Crossman.

“We are all deeply saddened by her death and, as a school, we stand ready to support each other in what is the hardest of situations.

Salisbury Journal:

“Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time and the whole school community sends them our sincerest sympathy and support.”

The girl's family are currently being supported by Wiltshire Police and have asked for privacy while they grieve.

A bench near to where the crash took place, off Church Street, is now adorned with cards and bouquets of flowers from the wider village community.

Cuddly toys and balloons sit alongside messages from the girl’s friends.

St Andrew's Church in the village have asked the wider community to Collingbourne Ducis to "hold the little girl’s family, the driver, and the school community in your prayers".

The village’s Community Speed Watch (CSW) team has also met with Philip Wilkinson, standing as the Conservative candidate in the upcoming PCC elections, this week.

He was told the group had purchased their own Auto Speed watch camera.

On Facebook, Mr Wilkinson wrote: “We clearly need a more joined-up approach between Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire council that looks not only at signage and cameras but most importantly leads from the camera to more effective prosecutions.

“And the CSW teams need feed back to know that their efforts are having a positive effect by reducing speeding and knowing that the chance of another tragedy as occurred yesterday will not be repeated.

“As a parent of two children my heart bleeds for the family who lost their daughter.”

The HGV driver remained on the scene following the crash, and Wiltshire Police reiterated today that no arrests had been made.

The road was closed for more than eight hours.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have dash cam footage which could assist their enquiries, to call Wiltshire Police’s Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting log 225 of Tuesday (July 13).
