An investigation is underway after a female soldier was found dead in army barracks on the outskirts of Salisbury.

Emergency services were called at 12.20pm yesterday (July 22) to Larkhill Royal Artillery Barracks.

The Ministry of Defence said the soldier was a woman in her thirties.

The government department and Wiltshire Police are investigating the circumstances, and said the death is not currently being treated as suspicious.

Wiltshire Police said: "We were called to Larkhill Garrison yesterday following the sudden death of a woman in her thirties.

"Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

"Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time. We would ask that their privacy is respected."

An Army Spokesperson added: “We can confirm the death of a soldier on July 22.

"The circumstances surrounding this death are being investigated and it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time.

“Our thoughts are with the soldier’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
