IT HAS been a star-studded week in and around Salisbury with Alan Carr, Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg all spotted filming.

On Wednesday, July 21, television personality Alan Carr was spotted filming for BBC series Interior Design Masters’ third season outside Salisbury Cathedral.

That same day Hollywood A-listers Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg were both spotted filming on Salisbury Plain and in a disused quarry near Westbury.

To honour this, we're looking back on eight films and TV shows that were filmed in Salisbury.

1) Netflix series Bridgerton (2020)

Netflix’s most viewed series ever, the period drama ‘Bridgerton’ based on The Duke and I novel by author Julia Quinn, filmed multiple scenes in Wilton House, Salisbury, which has been the country seat of the Earls of Pembroke for over 400 years.

One of the most iconic scenes, which takes place in the Royal Palace, Wilton House, sees the whole town gather to watch the new high society ladies make their debut to Queen Charlotte.

Stars that have gained massive fan followings from this show are the Regé-Jean Page who plays Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, and Snatch actress Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton.

Wilton house features for the ‘London Ball’ where Elinor and John Willoughby (Greg Wise) have an awkward encounter.

Trafalgar Park, an 18th century mansion around five miles southeast of Salisbury, was used as the grand estate house of Barton Park.

The National Trust property Mompesson House in Salisbury’s Cathedral Close is used as the home of the eccentric Mrs Jennings (Elizabeth Spriggs).
