The number of children with Covid-19 in Wiltshire has been revealed.

In the past week, 206 under 17s contracted the virus across the county.

The figure was revealed by Wiltshire Council on Tuesday July 27.

On that day, the council confirmed 2,070 infections had been recorded in the past seven days, of which 206 were children.

Although the figure is relatively small, the week before schools broke up for summer, 306 cases were recorded across 105 schools.

This resulted in 5,700 pupils and 367 staff being required to self-isolate.

From August 16, children and those who are fully vaccinated will no longer have to isolate if they are close contacts.

They will be advised to take a PCR test instead.

People in the 10-44 age group remain those with the highest case rate, with 20-24 year olds recording a rate of 1,432 per 100,000.

The average for Wiltshire in the seven days to July 23 is 324.
