AN AWARD-WINNING virtual bee trail is being relaunched in Salisbury.

The trail app is due to go live on Saturday August 7.

“The trail will be permanently installed and is meant to be done over time as you find each illustrated bee art board around Salisbury green spaces and choose to use the App to see the virtual bees’,” said Rebecca Twigg, the brains behind the DEFRA “beesneeds” award-winning trail.

"I hope this trail will give people a good foundation on which to go on and really understand how to help pollinators, as the issue is often not well reported in the media and can be sorely lacking in key facts and important beginners basics.

"It is kind of a pollinator 101 course for beginners, designed as a fun trail, using fun technology to add an extra dimension.’’

The trail boards will be spread out at different locations including Castle Hill Country Park and Queen Elizabeth Gardens.

Rebecca says the trail is easy to do but not to expect to do it in a day.

“With added AR technology; you can use the additional app element to trigger the bee images to ‘come to life’.”

It can also be done without using the app.

Salisbury Area Board supported the relaunch of the trail with a grant of £1,753.

"It is a great time to re-launch this trail which I originally created in 2015. Wiltshire area board funded part of this trail re-launch and I am very grateful to them for being able to back an important project like this’,” added Rebecca.

Rebecca is the creator of the wild St Clements church yard project in Mill Road and the new community garden at Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre.

Maps for the trial will be available from Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre, Fisherton Mill and Salisbury Library.
