A ROYAL Navy serviceman has received a special commendation for going “above and beyond” to support Salisbury District Hospital during the Covid pandemic.

During the second wave of the pandemic earlier this year, the hospital had support from the military who worked with hospital staff and helped provide care to patients across the hospital.

Air Engineering Technician George Russ, was one of those who stepped in to support staff and patients.

The hospital says he made a huge difference to both staff and patients during his time spent on the Acute Medical Unit.

George has been awarded a special commendation presentation after being nominated by the hospital’s Chaplaincy Team for bringing comfort to a patient towards the end of their life.

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive, Stacey Hunter, said: “We owe a debt of gratitude to George, and to all the military personnel who came to our assistance when we needed extra support. They really became part of the team and helped our staff and patients through the peak of the pandemic.”
