A "STATE-OF-THE ART" facility that will serve Alderbury for decades to come has been unveiled.

The newly refurbished and extended village hall was officially reopened on Saturday August 7 after 18 months of hard work.

Cllr Richard Britton, who represents the Alderbury and Whiteparish division on Wiltshire Council, cut the ribbon along with representatives of Alderbury Parish Council and members of the Village Hall Committee.

The chair of Alderbury Parish Council, Elaine Hartford, said: “I am delighted that we have finally got the village hall project across the line. It took over 18 months of hard work by the members of the steering group to bring the project in on time and on budget.

"There are so many volunteers we want to thank and I am delighted we will have that opportunity on Saturday. Alderbury now has a state-of-the-art facility that will serve the community well over the decades ahead.”

The village hall project was launched in 2019 with a price tag of just over £350,000 funded through parish council reserves, planning contributions received from the Matron’s Farm development and a Government loan.

The designs were drawn up by Alderbury architects, Barclay Phillips, and the build was undertaken by Winchester-based Greendale Construction.

The extension will house a new kitchen for the social club with a multipurpose room, a treatment room and an extended kitchen for the village hall.

Alderbury Village Hall is owned by the parish council but managed on behalf of villagers under a lease held by a dedicated charity and board of trustees, headed up by chairman Andy Larkham.

Andy added: “I am delighted that the village has such a fantastic new hall. It’s really going to be an asset for the local community and the local groups that use the facility. We have a modern kitchen, new meeting and treatment rooms - and a lot more space.

"Barclay Phillips and Greendale have done an excellent job and my thanks go to the parish council who found the money to allow all this to happen.”
