FIREFIGHTERS were called to reports of a "smoking vehicle" near a petrol station.

A crew from Ringwood attended Ringwood Road, St Leonards and St Ives just before 12pm on Saturday.

However, it was found to be a false alarm.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "Ringwood were mobilised at 11.58 on Saturday morning to reports of a smoking vehicle near a petrol station on Ringwood Road in St Leonards and St Ives.

"Working with police colleagues, the emergency services teams were unable to locate the vehicle, with the incident found to have been a false alarm."

The fire crew returned to the station at around 12.20pm.
