BUS services are being diverted by Salisbury Reds after one of its vehicles was vandalised.

The bus operator says a window on a R1 bus was smashed at midday today (Wednesday August 18) on St Michael's Road in Bemerton Heath.

As a result, the company says it will divert R1 services meaning the service is not currently stopping at St Michael’s Road, Herbert Road, or Tournament Road.

Richard Gagg, Salisbury Reds operations manager, said: "Sadly, one of our R1 buses was vandalised at midday today on St Michael’s Road, when one of its windows was smashed.

“Nobody was injured but I have taken the decision to divert R1 services until further notice. Buses are not currently stopping at St Michael’s Road, Herbert Rd, or Tournament Rd.

“We will review CCTV in a bid to identify the perpetrators, and we will reinstate the service as soon as we can.

“I would like to apologise for this inconvenience but, as always, the safety of our customers and drivers is paramount.”

This is not the first time Salisbury Reds buses have been the target of vandals.

Incidents of vandalism were preivously reported on Tuesday, April 13, and Thursday, April 15, on St Michael's Road.

Wiltshire Police has been contacted for comment on this latest incident.
