In its first term, GO! Southampton worked tirelessly to ensure the city was a place where businesses could thrive. Cost-saving schemes for members have been delivered, new investment secured, and training provided for businesses and young people.

Through partnership with Southampton City Council, businesses have been able to make substantial savings in their waste recycling costs.

Representing the business community with a strong voice is an important responsibility and GO! Southampton has lobbied local policy makers on the key issues and ensured the business community is heard. For instance, the removal of the late-night levy was secured, saving the night-time economy collectively £67,000 each year.

More than 70 businesses helped shape the response to the Local Plan consultation and GO! Southampton has represented business at key forums such as Southampton Connect and the Safe City Partnership.

Another important area of its work is developing skills and talent and GO! Southampton has supported ‘Get Inspired’ events across the city helping school pupils to connect with local employers. So far around 3,000 youngsters have attended these events.

Meanwhile working in partnership with other organisations, the BID has delivered a range of training opportunities covering areas such as customer service, marketing and counter terrorism.

Through collaboration with local partners, the organisation helped secure £72.7m for the city through various schemes such as Discover England Fund, Safer Streets and Transforming Cities Fund. GO! Southampton teamed up with internet service provider, toob, to promote the £50m Southampton full-fibre network and started campaigning for substantial commercial space for high-skilled employers.
