PLANS have been submitted to turn a former tailors in the Maltings into a new food and drink outlet.

The applicant Mr Jacob Price, from Melksham, says on the application form: "I am seeking change of use from A1, to Sui Generis.

"The proposed activities on sight include sale of hot and cold, alcoholic and non alcoholic drink, and also small foods for consumption on or off the premises."

The site is currently vacant, but was last used by a tailors which now currently resides in the commercial plot next door.

While it is not clear what the new shop will be specifically, a Wiltshire Council Planning Liaison Officer told the Journal: "I am satisfied that the description given adequately covers the range of uses which are proposed, this is the sale of various drinks and food to be consumed both on and off the premises.

"The need for planning permission for a sui generis use is that the proposed use, as described, does not fall within the existing use as a shop and does not fall solely or neatly within the description of a café or a bar, it is clearly a mix of those things."
