A MAN was given a suspended prison sentence after stalking a woman and drink driving.

Chesney Douglas Compton, of Knighton Road, Broad Chalke, indicated a plea of guilty to stalking, which had a substantial adverse affect on his victim’s day-to-day activities.

Heard by Salisbury Magistrates' Court in June, between May 16 and 24 the 46-year-old turned up at the address of a woman when he knew or ought to have known his actions would cause alarm or distress.

He also attempted to contact her through numerous phone calls and voicemail messages.

Compton also pleaded guilty to driving while exceeding the legal alcohol limit.

On May 24 in Ebbesbourne Wake, Compton was driving a Peugeot 307 with 53 microgrammes of alcohol in every 100ml of breath.

The defendant was committed to prison for 12 weeks suspended for 24 months.

This means the judicial punishment will not be enforced unless a further crime is committed during this two-year window.

Compton was ordered to attend an accredited programme for 30 days and must attend activities and appointments as instructed by an officer.

He was fined £400 and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £95 and costs of £85.

He was disqualified from driving for 14 months and a restraining order is in force to protect the victim from further contact.
