PLANS are already in the pipeline to host a festive community event this year, along with more for 2022.

Fordingbridge Events Group last week announced that its committee had its first face-to-face meeting in more than 18 months to organise events for late December 2021 and 2022.

The group has set it sights on arranging events to celebrate the Queen's jubilee next year and the Fordingbridge Festival, which had to be postponed due to Covid-19.

Nicky Jenkins, the chair of Fordingbridge Events Group, said: “Getting together was so great and although there is still a lot of uncertainty about future life and big events, we have decided to try and pull together a Christmas event for the town.

"We are also looking at community events for the Queen’s Jubilee in 2022 and what the Fordingbridge Festival could look like in the future.”

The events group says tentative plans for the Christmas event will involve the closure of Roundhill and a series of stands and entertainment on the afternoon of Saturday, December 11.

It is also looking for more people to get involved with the group and help with preparations for the planned events for the town.

Nicky added: “We are specifically looking for new people to get involved with our group. We’re a really fun bunch and there are a lot of laughs.

"Everyone is welcome as we have a variety of jobs that need doing but if you’re prepared to roll your sleeves up with all kinds of practical jobs, we really want to hear from you."

A meeting is being held from 6pm until 7pm on Monday, October 11, in Fordingbridge Town Hall, where more details about the Christmas event will be shared. Anyone looking for more information on how to get involved is welcome to come along.
