UPDATE: Army names Jethro Watson-Pickering, soldier who died on Salisbury Plain

They are currently investigating the circumstances of his death, which occurred at midday yesterday (October 15).

The service says it is joint investigation between Wiltshire Police, the Army and the Health and Safety Executive.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene around midday yesterday for a 'road traffic collision'.

It confirmed that crews attended from Pewsey and Ludgershall, together with the heavy rescue unit from Trowbridge.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed the death: "It is with sadness that we can confirm the death of a soldier on Salisbury Plain Training Area," said a spokesperson.

"Wiltshire Police are investigating and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further."

The spokesperson added that the department can say nothing further as the incident is still under investigation.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "Our thoughts are with the soldier’s family and friends at this difficult time and we would ask that their privacy is respected."
