A man has admitted attacking a man with a spade.

Neil Manning, 38, had been due to stand trial at Oxford Crown Court accused of aggravated burglary.

Prosecutors claimed he broke into a house in Periam Close, Henley-upon-Thames, on May 21 intending to attack the occupant with a garden spade.

But appearing before the court on Tuesday afternoon, Manning, of Crest Close, Twyford, admitted alternative charges of causing grievous bodily harm and damaging a conservatory door and the door to a lounge.

He was bailed to return to the crown court on December 2 for sentence. His bail conditions prevent him from entering Oxfordshire unless for pre-arranged appointments with his solicitor.

Judge Maria Lamb ordered a pre-sentence report but warned Manning he could be sent to prison: “You need to come ready prepared for all outcomes.”
