A passenger from the train derailment in Salisbury tunnel last night has shared his experience with the Journal including a photo from the tunnel.

A Salisbury resident was on the Portsmouth Harbour to Bristol Temple Meads train which derailed after striking an object on its approach to Salisbury station yesterday and was crashed into by another train in Fisherton tunnel.

The 38-year-old was coming from Brighton, with a change in Southampton and said 'It was a real chaos already' as he already faced several delays to his journey due to disruptions which led to him ending up on this train.

The passenger, who fell during the incident and hurt his arm, said: "We were told to stay seated.

"After the initial screams, shock and impact everyone remained relatively calm.

"One train employee was running up and down to ask everyone if they were ok and he was trying to find out what happened to the other carriages."

The passenger said they had to wait 20-25 minutes until they were rescued and escorted from the carriage with a ladder, which was when he took a photo of the tunnel.

Salisbury Journal:

He noted that it took 30 minutes to walk through the tunnel and along the rails before they reached Salisbury Station where they were offered a warm drink.

The passeger told the Journal: "I was planning my fourth delay reclaim already but never imagined this journey would finish in a tunnel crash."

Salisbury hospital confirmed that they treated 13 people injured from the Salisbury train crash yesterday, but this passenger thankfully was not seriously injured so did not end up in hospital.

Update: We have removed the passenger's name at his request.
