COMMUNITIES across the New Forest are preparing to mark Remembrance this month.

A display of poppies has been created by members and friends of Ringwood Afternoon WI at Greyfriars Community Centre.

Ringwood commemorations

Today (Sunday November 6), there will be a service in Ringwood at the War Graves in the town cemetery, which will be open to all. Meet in the cemetery car park at 10.45am.

On Armistice Day (November 11), there will be a service at the War Memorial at 10.45am when at 11am there will be two minutes silence.

On Remembrance Sunday November 14, there will be various services around the town followed by a parade which will gather in Market Place from 11.30am.

At 11.40am those assembled will process to the War Memorial Garden for a short service followed by the formal act of remembrance at about 12 noon.

This will be followed by a formal wreath-laying ceremony and a procession back to Market Place.

Members of the public are welcome attend.

Fordingbridge commemorations

In Fordingbridge, there will be an act of remembrance at the Memorial Gates (entrance to Riverside Park) on November 14 at 10.10am followed by a procession to the service at St Mary’s Church, 10.50am, and two minutes silence at 11am.

On Remembrance Day (November 11) there will be a service at Stuckton Road Cemetery, 11am.

Special film screening

A special screening of First World War drama 1917 is being held at the Regal Cinema in Fordingbridge for Remembrance Sunday.

The Fordingbridge Regal Cinema Club’s chairman, Brian Currie, is sponsoring and hosting a dawn screening of the film at 7am on

Remembrance Sunday, November 14.

There is no charge, however there will be a collection for the Poppy Appeal.

From the Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes, 1917 was largely filmed on Salisbury Plain.

The film received ten nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, and three wins, for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Sound Mixing.
