Stonewater's Pembroke House is a retirement living scheme with 38 self contained one and two bedroom flats.

Stonewater has told the Journal that damage was sustained to three flats, and one resident has needed to be provided with alternative accommodation.

A statement from Stonewater said: "Our first concern is the wellbeing and safety of our customers. We have a member of staff on site who has provided support to affected customers and welfare calls to all other customers.

"Our surveyor and contractors have also been on site to assess the
damage and attend to any urgent repairs. At this early stage, we're focusing on responding to our customers’ individual needs, including providing alternative accommodation and getting them back into their homes as quickly as practically possible.

"We can't speculate on the cause of the fire while investigations are on-going and we extend our thanks and appreciation to the emergency services for their prompt and professional response."
