A MAN in his 80s has died at Salisbury District Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.

Confirmed by Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, this means 228 patients in total have now passed away at the hospital, within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.

The last death recorded in this context was October 24.

There are currently eight Covid-19 positive patients being treated at the hospital.

A trust spokesperson said: "Sadly, we can confirm that a patient who had been cared for at Salisbury District Hospital and had tested positive for Covid-19 died on Monday, November 22.

"The patient was in his 80s and had underlying health conditions. Our thoughts and condolences are with the patient’s family and loved ones at this very difficult and distressing time."

The trust is also urging the public to "remain cautious and to take appropriate precautions to avoid transmission", including wearing masks in crowded places and good hand hygiene.

"In addition, people should take up the invitation for a Covid-19 vaccine when offered," the spokesperson added.

"It is never too late to get a first vaccine.”
