THE community turned out for some festive fun in Ringwood yesterday (Sunday November 28).

Ringwood Winter Wanderland, organised by Ringwood Town Council, launched with plenty of entertainment and the Christmas lights switch on to bring some festive cheer to the town.

The event also featured Santa parades, a Christmas grotto, fairground and various performers throughout the day.

A statement posted on the Ringwood Winter Wanderland Facebook page said: "We at Ringwood Town Council would like to thank everyone who came down yesterday and made this such a special day. It was wonderful to see the community coming together and kicking off the Christmas period in style.

"A special thank you to our volunteers- Ringwood Carnival, Ringwood Men's Shed, Ringwood & District Round Table and Rotary Club Of Ringwood, our sponsors, stall holders, performers, bands and entertainers."

Ringwood mayor, Cllr Tony Ring added: "The Ringwood Christmas Wanderland experience started on 28 November with our town centre celebration which was a mighty success and testimony to the wonderful community spirit always on show with the huge number of visitors present clearly enjoying the day of market, fun fair, stage and street entertainment activities and of course parades by Santa and his elves to his grotto and on to the stage for a switch on to the town Christmas street lights.

"Sincere thanks are due to the generous sponsors and many volunteers who contributed to the creation of a very memorable day."

A Christmas Window Competition is also being held which is open to all shops, businesses and organisations in the town.

Members of the public will be able to vote for their favourite.
