CHRISTMAS in Salisbury is now in full swing thanks to the return of live music and carols.

After an enforced break during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Salvation Army Band has returned to the high street, entertaining shoppers with traditional festive tunes.

The band is playing at various venues across the city in the lead up to Christmas, including the Maltings every Saturday this month, Boscombe Down Aviation Collection on December 7, and the group’s hall on Salt Lane for a community carol service on December 19.

The band also recently featured in the Guildhall Square launch of Christmas in Salisbury.

“It’s great to be back on the streets playing carols again,” said Captain Martin Davison, leader of the Salvation Army in Salisbury.

“We missed the positive feedback we always get from the public who often remark that Christmas has not truly started until they hear our band play the familiar tunes.”

Captain Davison added: “It’s a busy time for us with both our musical activities and the community work we are associated with locally.

"Our gift appeal is going really well, and we hope to include some gifts for homeless people that we will be taking out on Christmas Eve evening in the city centre.”

Gifts for the Salvation Army work in Salisbury can be made at the church and community centre (Salt Lane) every day up until Christmas, between 10am and 2pm.
