THOUSANDS enjoyed the “splendid” Christmas Tree Festival at St Thomas’s Church last week.

Between November 30 and December 5 the church, in the heart of Salisbury, was filled with around 90 festive trees, decorated and contributed by businesses, groups, charities and schools.

The spectacle was accompanied by live entertainment from local choirs, ensembles and musicians.

As well as enjoying trees of all shapes and sizes, the event was raising money for the church, The Children’s Society and Wessex Stoma Support Group.

Recording around 9,000 visitors, organisers John Cox and Di Emsley said it was “wonderful to be back in the church again after two years", praising the "splendid variety of exhibits and a full programme of live music”.

They added: “The organisers are very grateful to everyone who took part and who came.

"We look forward to the ‘Carols for Busy People’ service on December 22 when the beneficiary charities will be presented with their cheques.”
