CHRISTMAS boxes will help bring some festive joy to struggling families in the Salisbury area.

The initiative from Salisbury Foodbank, an independent charity and part of The Trussell Trust network, is providing 250 special Christmas boxes to those in the most need.

Each box contains a range of seasonal goodies, specially packed in the Food bank warehouse from the generous festive donations from the local community.

Maria Stevenson, the manager of Salisbury Foodbank said: “This is a special time of year when people already experiencing hardship are especially conscious of the things that they cannot afford or have to do without. To help them with their impossible decisions; we aim to provide some joy over Christmas period.

“Due to the kindness of our local community and their donations we will distribute over four tonnes of standard and festive food this Christmas season. Also, any Christmas goodies left over will be distributed to our fellow partner and supportive charities.”

She thanked everyone who has supported the initiative and donated items, adding: “We simply wouldn’t be able to deliver these projects with your help. You and the dedicated team of foodbank volunteers who sort, check and pack the parcels are the reason this can happen”

The boxes are due to be distributed in the Christmas week.

The bulk of the distribution is being done by A World of Furniture.
