Whilst many of us were celebrating Christmas at home with our families, NHS staff across the country were working around the clock to keep vital services running.

Around 350 patients were cared for each day over the festive period at Salisbury District hospital, with 15 Covid positive patients being treated during this time.

In exciting news, three baby girls were welcomed into the world on Christmas day at SDH, the first at 4.55am in the morning.

As is custom at Christmas, the kitchens prepared festive meals for December 25 and 26.

According to a spokesperson, the shopping list included 70 kilos of turkey, 70 kilos of lamb, 100 kilos of potatoes, and 40 kilos each of carrots, parsnips and Brussel sprouts.

This feast was prepared by just two chefs with the help of a small team of catering assistants.

Yesterday (27th) the vaccine centre was open in Salisbury City Hall in the morning and saw 610 people.

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust CEO Stacey Hunter said: "A huge thank you to all our staff that have worked over the holiday period keeping the hospital running, caring for patients, tending to the injured, delivering babies and staffing the vaccination centre.

"The NHS never closes and this is only possible due to the amazing dedication and commitment of all our staff."
