The patient, who had underlying health conditions, died yesterday (Thursday January 13).

A spokesperson for the hospital said: "Sadly, we can confirm that a patient who had been cared for at Salisbury District Hospital and had tested positive for Covid-19 died on Thursday January 13. The patient was in her 80s and had underlying health conditions.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the patient’s family and loved ones at this very difficult and distressing time.

"Two hundred and thirty five patients in total have now passed away at Salisbury District Hospital, within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test. There are currently 16 Covid-19 positive patients being treated at the hospital.

"We would ask the public to remain cautious and to take appropriate precautions to avoid transmission, such as mask wearing in crowded places and good hand hygiene.

"In addition, people should take up the invitation for a Covid-19 vaccine when offered. It is never too late to get a first vaccine. COovid-19 booster vaccinations are also available for those who are eligible.”
