A YOUNG girl was taken to hospital after being hit by a taxi this morning in Shoebury.

Both the police and ambulance service were in attendance at approximately 9am.

A spokesperson for Essex Person gave a statement on the incident.

They said: “We attended Delaware Road, Shoeburyness, following a collision concerning a girl and a vehicle today (Friday 14 January).

“Just before 9am, a Peugeot taxi was in collision with a young girl who was crossing the road.

“She was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

“Our enquiries continue.”

The young girl has since been transferred to Southend Hospital for assessment and treatment.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to Delaware Road just before 9am this morning after reports that a child had been hit by a car.

"An ambulance and senior paramedic in a support vehicle were quickly on the scene.

"A young girl was transported to Southend University Hospital for further assessment and treatment.” 

Councillor Tony Cox, who represents the West Shoebury Ward, hopes the child has a speedy recovery.

He said: “I am sorry to hear about this incident this morning, I wish the young child a speedy recovery and hopefully she’ll soon be fighting fit and back to school soon.
