THE Basingstoke Bison suffered a rare home defeat to local rivals the Bees.

The visitors came back from 3-1 down to win 5-4 in overtime last Saturday.

The first period saw the team trade goals as well as a number of big hits. Ryan Webb gave the Bees the lead in what was their first attack, before Adam Jones rifled home to level things after 20 minutes.

The second session saw the Herd take control thanks to a super strike from man of the match Zack Milton and then George Norcliffe tapped home after Jay King’s shot came off the pads of the visiting goalie.

The Bees hauled themselves back into the contest as former Bison man Stuart Mogg scored just 69 seconds after the restart.

The visitors then tied the game as an altercation involving four players nearly resulted in a fight, while at the other end of the rink man of the match Webb slotted home.

The second penalty of the game saw the Bison take the lead once more from Roberts, but the Bees again equalised as Gabaj jammed the puck in at the post.

As the match came to a close the Bees were given their first powerplay, but it was the Bison who came closest to scoring as Norcliffe fed Adam Harding, but his shot hit the post, with 87 seconds left.

Seconds later, the Herd were then given their own powerplay, but failed to score by the final buzzer.

The man advantage continued into overtime, but they were unable to make it count, whereas the Bees did with their first chance, as Juha Lindgren scored the winner at 62:01.

On Sunday night, the Bison were beaten 6-3 in Peterborough, despite Alex Mettam saving a penalty shot from Ales Padelek. Ashley Tait, Norcliffe and Milton were the men on target for the Herd.

Jarvis Hunt scored twice for Peterborough, while Tom Norton, Corey McEwen, Glenn Billing and Petr Stepanek all netted once.

In Basingstoke, the Buffalo enjoyed an 8-2 victory over the Chelmsford Warriors.

Travis Penny led the scoring with 2+2 and Sam Brooks returned 2+1. There were also single strikes from Cam Buckle, Harry Brooks, Anthony Sutherland and Xander Robinson.
