A SURPRISE tea party was held in Fordingbridge to mark the 100th birthday of Helen Jean Dunn.

Helen, who goes by her middle name of Jean, was joined by members of her extended family at Glynn Court on January 15 to celebrate the special occasion.

She was born on January 17, 1922 in Southampton. Jean was very involved in the Red Cross, which led to her attending a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

She was married to Alex whom she met when he was working in bomb disposal during the Second World War.

The couple wed two days after the Queen and Phillip in November 1947, and went on to have two children Alison and Andrew.

In 1962 she started working as a school secretary until she retired in 1982. From 1967 the family had many foreign holidays to destinations which were very unusual at the time. This enabled them to enjoy their joint hobby of film making.
