THE A303 is closed in both directions between the A345 and A360 near Stonehenge after a serious collision.

Police said earlier today that the road is likely to be closed for some time. 

An update at 8.30am said: "A reminder that the A303 remains closed in both directions this morning between the A345 and A360 near Stonehenge following a serious collision."

It has now been confirmed by police that a 24-year-old man was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and was pronounced dead this morning.

The National Highways Tweet says the closure is in place following a collision involving a pedestrian and a HGV. 

Its website also adds: "Collision investigation by Wiltshire Police is taking place at scene. Due to the nature of this incident the closure is expected to be protracted and be ongoing through the morning. 

"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra time for your journey."
