OLYMPIAN Tom Daley OBE greeted residents in Fordingbridge and Alderholt this morning (Wednesday February 16).

The gold medallist is on a four-day challenge to row, cycle, swim and run his way from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford to Plymouth to raise money for Comic Relief.

The diver cycled through Fordingbridge into Alderholt early this morning.

Clare Johnston, of The Gourmet Grocer, said: "What a great start to Wednesday! It’s not everyday you get to see an Olympic Gold Medallist cycle through your home town so it was worth getting out of bed a little bit earlier to support his efforts for such a great cause.

"Our boys Kayden, nine, and Theo, seven, were very excited by all after witnessing Toms achievements during the olympics and we think he’s a great role model for the young and not just with sport.

"There was a lovely welcoming committee outside The Gourmet Grocer in Fordingbridge with Marco and his family at La Lambretta cheering from the windows above the restaurant and lots of children on their school uniform eager to see the sporting icon."

As part of his challenge Tom will swim in open waters, cycle some of the nation’s toughest routes, row down the Thames and complete an ultra-marathon as he makes his way back to his hometown in Devon.

Angela Wallworth, who filmed the moment he came through Fordingbridge, said: "I was following the interactive map on the Comic Relief website early this morning and him going across The New Forest.

"So I made a coffee and walked to the church. There were only a handful of people where I was. Maybe because it was so early 7.20am.

"It was lovely to support him on this massive journey.

"Can't wait to see how much he'll raise?"
