SALISBURY firefighters came to the rescue of man who had fallen down a river bank.

Two crews from Salisbury Fire Station were called to Middle Woodford at 7.05pm on Saturday to help the ambulance service.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two crews from Salisbury were called to Middle Woodford at 7.05pm on Saturday evening to assist an ambulance crew with a man who had fallen down a river bank.

"Our crews carried the casualty along the river bank. Our stop came at 7.51pm when he was left in the care of the ambulance crew."

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust sent two double-crewed land ambulances to the scene and a spokesperson said a patient was taken to Salisbury District Hospital.
