A HORSE was rescued by firefighters after a trailer ended up on its side in a ditch.

Crews from Verwood and Ferndown and a technical rescue team from Poole along with a vet were called to Horton Road, Three Legged Cross at around 12.35pm on Tuesday.

After making sure Bubba the horse was okay the vehicle was moved and the horse was brought to safety on a specialist animal rescue board.

Verwood Fire Station, on Facebook, said: "Once free from the horse box the vet checked it over and it was given a clean bill of health."

The incident was dealt with by 2.30pm.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to Horton Road, Three Legged Cross at 12.34pm this afternoon after a horse trailer ended up on its side in a ditch with a horse (‘Bubba’) inside.

"Crews attended from Verwood and Ferndown, together with a technical rescue team from Poole; the initial priority was to make sure the horse was OK, and a vet attended to apply some sedation.

Salisbury Journal:

"The vehicle was then brought upright, before the horse was brought to safety on a specialist animal rescue board. It was able to stand once the sedation had worn off, and our stop was at 2.30pm."
