A 25-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following last night's incident in Fisherton Street.

It comes after a man and a woman were struck by a car being deliberately driven at pedestrians around 9.45pm.

A police cordon was in place for most of today as officers carried out their enquiries.

Although many questions remain, particularly around the motive of the incident, here is all we know so far.

What happened

At around 9.45pm yesterday (Sunday 27 March), a car was deliberately driven at pedestrians in Fisherton Street.

A man and a woman were hit by the car, a blue Skoda, which mounted the pavement before leaving the scene.

They were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Where

A police cordon was in place from just after Water Lane to before North Street, where officers were investigating the scene.

The cordon was in place from this morning (Monday March 28), and possibly overnight, until this afternoon.

The pavement and the left side of the road outside Computer Centre and Chris Wadge Clocks was closed, and the shops were closed.

Champion Barbers, on the corner with North Street, still opened today.

Why

Wiltshire Police say the incident is not being treated as an act of terrorism but haven't confirmed what might be behind it.

Their investigation is ongoing.

Emergency response

South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) sent two double-crewed land ambulances and a rapid response vehicle.

The two patients were taken by ambulance to Salisbury District Hospital.

If you have any information

Detective Inspector Dean Garvin said: “This is a deeply concerning incident in which a vehicle appears to have been deliberately driven at pedestrians.

"Two people were injured and taken to hospital. Their injuries could have easily have been much, much worse.

“We are asking members of the public to contact us if you were in the area of Fisherton Street, Salisbury at about 9.45pm yesterday (Sunday 27 March), and witnessed what took place.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage of a Blue Skoda driving around Salisbury City Centre late last night.”
