An inspection of the carriageway will then take place to see if any emergency repairs are needed before the road can reopen.

A section of the road, between the A30 in Salisbury and the A303 in Deptford, has been closed after the incident occurred at around 10am today (Tuesday April 19).

According to Network Rail, the lorry hit the bridge and the lorry's trailer was stuck underneath it.

An environmental support unit had to attend, as there had been a spillage of mineral oil.

Nobody is believed to have been injured.

Emergency services attended the scene, along with a Network Rail mobile operations manager to inspect the bridge. The manager confirmed that there was no damage to the bridge other than a few minor scrapes.

Once the lorry has been removed, police and National Highways can reopen the road.
