AN UNEXPECTED obstacle appeared in Stratford sub Castle on Saturday and has sparked a lot of reaction on social media.

Ringway, a highway infrastructure contractor hired by Wiltshire Council, gave the pathways leading on to Stratford Road a fresh lick of paint but one section didn’t go as planned.

A thick white line was painted near the middle of the pathway, which resides next to Avon Valley Nature Reserve.

Passers-by were laughing at the way the freshly painted white line squiggles around the bushes, one lady jokingly asking whether it had been done as an arts display.

After reconsideration from Ringway, workers went back this morning, May 9, to “cover up” the wonky line.

“The bumpy pathway makes it impossible to paint a straight line,” said one of the Ringway employees.

Mixing black paint into their machine, the contractors planned on tracing over the white line, since it wasn’t meant to be there in the first place.

Seeing light of the situation, the Ringway employee said: “Everyone makes mistakes, nobody’s perfect and we’re here to fix it.”

Facebook users shared laughs over pictures taken this morning by the Journal, Hannah Emberson said: “Should have just drawn a snake face at one end.”

Another Facebook user, Matthew Gavin, said: “Think it looks even worse now they have painted the black line over it.”

Wiltshire Council has been contacted for comment.
