THE Fabulous Family Fun Day offered up activities for all ages in Salisbury at the weekend.

The event, which is in its eighth year, is held every year in memory of Lyn Futcher who died from breast cancer.

Raising money for Salisbury Hospice Charity, the family fun day returned with a bang on Saturday, May 14, at Salisbury Rugby Club with live music, children’s entertainment, a beer festival, Pimms and Prosecco bars as well as football and touch rugby tournaments. In 2020, the fun day was held virtually.

New to this year's programme was the touch rugby tournament, which is hoped will be continued at future events. Sixteen football teams took part in the tournament, along with eight teams competing in the touch rugby games.

The event also paid tribute to Freddie Jones-Fontete, who died on February 23 following an attack in Salisbury. A one minute clap was held and for the first time the Freddie Jones Fair Play Shield was presented in his honour.

Event organiser Greig Futcher said "everybody was happy and smiling" adding: "It went brilliantly. It went above and beyond anything that we've done before.

"We were blessed with the weather."

Grieg says the event is getting well-known within the community and becoming a date in people's diaries.

It has grown from its humble beginnings where it started with a four-team football tournament in Amesbury with a 'splat the rat' game.

Summing up this year's fun day, he added: "It was excellent, it did what it said on the tin - it was a fun day and it was fabulous."

Greig said: "I want to thank everyone that was involved. I want to thank all the sponsors, the volunteers, bands, all the guys that came and played football and rugby, and all the vendors, everyone. It all came together because of all those people turning up."

He also thanked the Fabulous Fun Day committee members for their help and support and said: "I couldn't do it without them."

An announcement will be made in the coming days about how much was raised from the event for Salisbury Hospice Charity.
