According to emergency services, a sofa was set on fire outside a property in Mere last night.

At around 9.41pm yesterday (Sunday, May 22), Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service was called to Lynch Close after a sofa that had been left outside a property was seen to be on fire.

A crew from Wincanton attended, but the service says the fire had been extinguished and so no action was needed.

A fire service spokesperson says police were informed as it was believed to be a deliberate fire.

However, police say they attended the street for antisocial behaviour later the same evening.

At around 11.30pm, Wiltshire Police attended Lynch Close following reports of anti-social behaviour and loud music being played.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers spoke to residents about the issues, ensured the loud music was turned down and offered advice about reporting matters to the housing association.”
