A SCHOOL in Ringwood is closed to pupils today due to an unauthorised encampment causing a security breach.

Ringwood School confirmed all students will be working remotely today but Year 11 and Year 13 exams would be going ahead as normal.

At least nine caravans and vehicles have pitched up at Carvers Recreation Ground, with a few of the vehicles parked alongside the school's tennis courts.

The school said parents had been made aware of the "emergency arrangements" and would be updated later today as the "situation evolves".

A statement from Ringwood School said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances the security of our site has been breached and unfortunately this presents a safeguarding risk which means that we need to operate differently today, Tuesday 24th May.

"All students will be working remotely today.

"Year 11 and Year 13 public exams will go ahead as normal.

"Parents have been notified of these emergency arrangements and we will be in touch again later today as the situation evolves."

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We have been made aware of an unauthorised encampment on Parsonage Barn Lane, which includes Carver Recreational Ground and Ringwood School. They arrived yesterday (23 May) just before 8pm.

"Our officers are currently investigating the encampment, making regular visits as part of their routine patrol plans while working closely with local partners and the landowners in order to resolve this issue.

"Anyone wishing to report any suspicious activity or a crime, can do so via our online reporting tool on the Hampshire Constabulary website or by calling 101.

"Please remember that if a crime is in progress, the suspects are at the scene, or a person is in immediate danger then please dial 999."
