TODAY Sue Gray’s inquiry into partygate has been released and Salisbury residents shared their thoughts on Boris Johnson’s Government.

A total of 126 fines for breaches in No 10 and Whitehall have been issued by the Metropolitan Police, with the Prime Minister receiving a single fixed-penalty notice for his birthday party.

In her report, Sue Gray says events took place on eight different days from May 2020 to April 2021.

We spoke to Salisbury residents and asked them whether we should still be talking about partygate and if Boris Johnson should resign.

Malcolm Bates, 73, said: “I think he’s got away with it because of Ukraine and other things like that.

“I think he should resign, but who’s to replace him? That’s the $64,000 question!”

Some people said current world circumstances have influenced their opinion on whether the Prime Minister should resign.

Gay Warrington said: “I think we should be talking about it but there are other issues, like Ukraine.

“Under normal circumstances he should go but there’s so much going on at the moment and he’s doing quite a good job with Ukraine.”

Lionel Warrington added his thoughts on Sue Gray’s report: “The time it’s wasted when there’s so much more things to be focused on is incredible, it should’ve been dealt with in a week.”

Another Salisbury resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I don’t care about it, I think everybody at some point has broken lockdown rules.

"It was a long time ago and I think we shouldn’t be spending all this money on doing that when we’ve got other things in crisis."

Should he resign? She replied: “Absolutely not, it’s the last thing we need right now, and I don’t think we’ve got anybody worthy of it anyway. They’ve all lied and done it at some point.”

Margaret Allen said: “I think it’s going on too long and they’re all criminals anyway.”

“I don’t think he should resign because everyone was breaking the rules.”

In response to finding out that the Prime Minister had attended parties during lockdown, she said: “Well who wasn’t? It’s not a national issue, is it?”

Mary Painter has “no support” for the Prime Minister, she said: “I feel that he should resign and I think that when the overall population of this country abided by the restrictions it is too much."

David Smith said: “We should stop talking about it when the Prime Minister resigns for all his lies.

“We stayed at home following all the rules and he should do the honourable thing; he’s broken the law and he should resign.”
