Six Salisbury residents are to be made MBEs or OBEs in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list 2022.

The bi-annual honours announcement awards people across the UK who make outstanding contributions to their communities and to society.

This year, the list, which also marks Her Majesty’s 70 years of service, sees 1,134 people acknowledged.

The Salisbury people receiving Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBEs) are:

  • Angela Jane Burns. For Political and Public Service (Salisbury, Wiltshire)
  • Gillian Anne Sinclair Clarke. Captain, 1st Amesbury Girls’ Brigade Company. For services to Young People and to the community in Amesbury, Wiltshire (Salisbury, Wiltshire)
  • Susan Elizabeth Wills. Assistant Director, Lifelong Learning and Culture, Surrey County Council. For services to Public Libraries (Salisbury, Wiltshire)

Receiving Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBEs):

  • Virginia Caroline Bennett. Senior Lawyer, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Legal Advisers, Government Legal Department. For services to Climate Change Law (Salisbury, Wiltshire)
  • Warren Marks. Senior Principal Scientist, Applied Data Science, Defence Science and Technology Laboratory. For services to Defence and Security (Salisbury, Wiltshire)
  • Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Buxton, of the Royal Artillery, has been recognised for his work countering unacceptable behaviour and improving the culture of the British Army

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “This historic Platinum Jubilee is not only a celebration of the monarch but of the qualities she possesses. The honours she confers this week reflect many of those qualities that have been invaluable from all different walks of life and to communities across the UK.

“I pay tribute to all of this year’s winners. Their stories of courage and compassion are an inspiration to us all.”
