A SPECIALIST vet referral hospital in Hampshire is due to be transformed as it undergoes a £10m refurbishment project.

Southern Counties Veterinary Specialist (SCVS) in Ringwood is being expanded, doubling the current premises to 30,000 square feet.

With around 200 staff, the organisation is said to be one of the main employers in the area but due to the expansion, a further 20 jobs are expected to be created.

Key to the development is the addition of a new two-storey building which will add a new reception and waiting area, with a private waiting room for sensitive cases.

It will also mean multiple new consulting rooms, as well as additional out-patient procedure rooms and new equipment.

Cats will be looked after at the facility, with a dedicated cat-friendly waiting area and a cat-only consulting room to "minimise owners’ stress" when visiting the hospital.

Stephen Collins, hospital director and specialist cardiologist at SCVS, said: “After two long years of Covid restrictions, we are very much looking forward to inviting clients from the area into this fabulous facility and providing them, and their pets, with the exceptional care they deserve.

“We are very excited about the developments at our Ringwood hospital and are looking forward to opening our doors later this year. We have an amazing team of people at SCVS, and I am delighted we now have a facility that will provide them with the very best working environment as well as more space to allow us to expand the services we offer.”
