POLICE responded to reports of a man with a weapon threatening and attacking a person in a supermarket in Ringwood. 

Hampshire Constabulary says it was called out at 11.25am yesterday (Sunday, June 12) following reports of public order on Meeting House Lane.

A police spokesperson said: "It is reported that a man entered a supermarket and threatened and attacked another person in the store with a weapon.

"Officers arrived on scene and detained a 18-year-old man from Lymington. No weapons were located but enquiries remain ongoing in the local area to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident."

A 18-year-old man from Lymington was arrested on suspicion of affray. He was released on police conditional bail until Tuesday, July 19. 

A post on the Ringwood Police Facebook page said: "Please be assured that this is an isolated incident between two parties known to each other and doesn't represent a risk to the wider community."
