BCP Council has invested £1.69 million to help keep its residents safe, says a senior councillor following a stabbing in the town centre.

At around 10.26pm on Wednesday, June 22, a man was airlifted to hospital after being stabbed in St Peter’s Road, Bournemouth

A 25-year-old man from Bournemouth was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and a 19-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 21-year-old man from the London area was also arrested on suspicion of affray.

Councillor Bobbie Dove, portfolio holder for community safety and regulatory services, said while she wouldn't comment on an ongoing investigation, she did outline what the council is doing to protect its residents from serious crimes.

Cllr Dove said: “BCP Council has an active programme of investment to improve the safety within our busy town centres and across BCP.

“Some £1.69m has been invested in our summer response plans - we are currently recruiting for five new officers to strengthen our team of Community Safety Accredited Officers (CSAS) and have additional security patrols to start in July to patrol our town centres, tackling ASB and crime.

“These measures are part of our Cleaner, Greener, Safety campaign.

“We have invested further in CCTV, will operate the Safe Bus at Horseshoe Common from July 1 for the summer and continue to work alongside our partners including Dorset Police and the Business Improvement Districts (BIDs).”
