A window was damaged at the Salisbury Pride UK pop-up shop after an "unknown object" was thrown at it.

Police say around £200 worth of damage was caused. It happened yesterday (Sunday, June 26).

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We’ve had a report that damage was caused to the Salisbury Pride pop up shop in Fisherton Street.

"This happened between 5pm and 6pm on June 26. An unknown object was thrown at the window causing damage worth over £200.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing."

The Salisbury Pride shop had only recently moved into the former Hair Extension Cave salon.

Cllr Caroline Corbin, who is the festival director and has been greatly involved in the organisation of the Salisbury Pride event, said: “I know many of the shops around the city are being hit in similar ways; however, if this is indeed a hate crime, it endorses the need for a presence in Salisbury and for the LGBT+ community to know we won’t give up.

“It wasn’t what I expected on a Sunday afternoon in broad daylight."

“We are a charity and Molly Cook from The Hair Extension Cave sponsored us by allowing use of the shop and now, we have to use funds for window repair and that means a big hit even if through insurance. We are less than a week from the main event and our focus needs to be there," she added.

The Salisbury Pride Festival takes place on Saturday July 2 at Queen Elizabeth Gardens.

Donations to help with the costs of repairs can be made through the website.

Anyone with information about the damage should call Wiltshire Police on 101 and quote crime reference number 54220066557.
