PARKING enforcement officers are set to strike at the end of this month, but residents and visitors must still adhere to the usual parking restrictions.

Wiltshire Council has issued a reminder that council officers will still be patrolling, and penalty charge notices (PCNs) will be issued where necessary.

The strike is due to take place from June 30 to July 6 and parking tickets and season tickets should be purchased as usual.

Terence Herbert, the chief executive of Wiltshire Council, said: “We’ve seen some reports claiming that people won’t have to pay for parking during the proposed strike period. This isn’t the case, as we will still have officers working during that time. We are still working to resolve this dispute and continue our discussions through a working group with the three recognised unions, Unison, Unite the Union and GMB.

“The aim of the current discussions is to agree policies that are standardised, fit for purpose, financially viable and support delivery of the council’s business plan, while ensuring our staff are fairly and appropriately rewarded. There are no proposals to cut the base pay of any council staff. We value our staff, and we will continue to listen to their views throughout this process.”

Wiltshire Council advises the easiest way to pay is with the MiPermit smartphone app and this can be downloaded to their mobile phones before parking.
