BUDGET supermarket Lidl has announced they wish to build a new store in Wareham.
Up to 40 new jobs could be created at the new store in Sandford Road.
The proposals would see a 1,411 square metre sales area be built on a field, and would include a bakery, longer style tills with dual packing, and customer toilets.
114 parking spaces would be available on site, including accessible, parent and child and electric vehicle charging spaces.
At the front of the store, places for bicycles would also be included as well as “significant” new landscaping and planting across the site, and the retention of existing hedgerows along Sandford Road, which will protect views to and from the store.
Solar panels will be fitted to the roof, in-keeping with the company’s commitment to sustainability.
The site would be accessed via the roundabout with Sandford Road and Morden Road.
Wareham currently only has one supermarket – a Sainsbury’s in South Street.
A planning application hasn’t yet been submitted to Dorset Council, but Lidl is encouraging residents to voice their opinions on the site proposals.
