A FIRE at a commerical premises in Tidworth is "now under control" but crews will be on scene for a number of hours to monitor for hotspots. 

In an update on Twitter, Dorset and Wiltshrie Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) said: "The incident in Tidworth is now under control and has been scaled down - we will be on scene for a number of hours yet monitoring and cooling hotspots. Apologies for any inconvenience caused."

The fire service was called at 9.45am this morning (July 26) to the incident in Jagdalik Road.

More than 20 fire appliances were called to the scene, including two from Salisbury along with crews from Pewsey, Marlborough, Chippenham, Stratton, Devizes and Warminster. Support was also provided by crews from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. 

The incident involves a fire within a stable block, used as offices and storage.

Firefighters found the roof of the property to be "well alight on arrival". 

Aspire Defence confirmed that a fire alarm was triggered in a Grade II listed building known as The Stables on the MOD estate at Tidworth, which it says is used as offices and a store by Aspire Defence and the MOD. 

A spokesperson for Aspire Defence said that "all occupants were safely evacuated" and "emergency services arrived on site quickly".
