An award-winning nursery chain is dedicated to ending the climate crisis by planting trees to help keep temperatures below 1.5C.

With a nursery in Salisbury and throughout the South West, Tops Day Nurseries has partnered with Ecologi and for each child enrolled in one of its nurseries, it has pledged to plant a tree.

This will lead to thousands of trees being planted.

Managing director Cheryl Hadland said: “We are one of the most eco-sustainable family of day nurseries in the UK and we work hard to be sustainable in our everyday practice.

“We are always looking for new ways to save the planet and influence the future generation to do the same. Engaging with Ecologi is a great opportunity to give back to the children, families and employees who are part of our Tops family and to continue our mission of an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible world for all”.

Trees are vital in the fight to combat global warming as they absorb carbon in the atmosphere.

Tops Nurseries is also planning to plant trees for all employees and will do the same for those who join the company in the future.

With 800 colleagues currently working for Tops Day Nurseries, they will create their own wood of trees which will be planted in Madagascar. The island has over 90 per cent of wildlife which is found nowhere else on Earth and is considered a biodiversity hotspot.

The nursery in Salisbury is located at Salisbury District Hospital and many activities were planned for National Tree Day to teach children about climate change.

They were the first day nursery chain in the UK to achieve B Corp certification and were recently awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.
